Being part of your art class has influenced me a lot because I learned lots of new things about art. What I really liked about mr.renners class was all the fun activity that we had to do. One of the projects that I liked the most was when we had to do a cactus, it was a lot of fun because I got to work with wire ,cement ,and paint . If we did really good on that assignment Mr. Renner said that it was going to be in a contest at the Houston Rodeo. The second assignment that I really like or had more fun with was the one me and my group are doing right now, making a puppet out of many different materials. So far one of the challenges I had to face was working with different people ,therefore we all had to come together as a group to take any decision about the project , but after all the product was pretty good because our project can move and its easy for us to maneuver. The last but not the least the third project that I enjoy doing was the platonic solids projects because we had to make a semi balance that will be able to hang but be balanced with all the platonic solids hanging from it. In this assignment we had to work with different materials ,but the hardest ting to work with was the gravity because the thing had to be balance for sure. All these three projects were the ones I had most fun doing that’s why I chose them, but their all different because I faced many and different challenges with every project.
Sculpture with the exception of the platonic solids(not to diss them, I just had a difficult time crafting them)I can say was one of the more enjoyable classes that I have taken this school year. For the most part, I was fascinated by each new art piece that Mr. Renner displayed for a warm up at the start of every class and loved the open ended discussion (or the semblance of a discussion anyway)that allowed me to express my particular interpretation (excuse me if that sounds self serving). I believe the first project of the semester was the platonic solids assignment in which we had to, draw, cut, and finally form a platonic solid (which, I think, was carried over by the previous semster). While I found the concept of platonic solids as fascinating, what with each three-dimensional object being formed by the same shape,I found it to be creatively stifling, and totally dependent on one's technical skills. That is up until the point where we were allowed to paint our solids. Following soon after, and can be seen as extension of the platonic solids assignment was the Mobile project, seemingly inspired by Alexander Calder's works, in which we had to create a mobile out of the platonic solids that was akin to a heliocentric model. One of the major challenges involved in creating this model was to balance the solids while allowing free revolutionary movement. By far the most pleasant experience was the recent puppet project, and it was great to see the ingenuity of my peers as we constructed these puppets from various parts found throughout the class room. And seeing as it was the only real group project, I found that amongst my group it wasn't very difficult to coalesce and that the ideas flowed pretty easily. I can honestly say that I'm proud of what we've created as a team, and that I had quite a fun time helping create the puppets. All three of these projects required some crafting skills, as well as having a theme of being a part of a larger scheme (at least I can say that for my puppet group anyway). Other than that I can't think of much else to say as far as similarities go. But there were many differences. It seemed as we progressed from one project to the other, each involved more creativity than the antecedent. Evolving from the precise, methodical building of the platonic solids, to the slight control over how to obtain a system of balance for the mobile, to the free form creation of any puppet that we could devise out of our surroundings, it felt like we obtained more creativity at each level. I felt like I did horribly for both platonic solids and mobile as each still stand incomplete. But the puppet project was, as said before, very fun, and the products were accomplishments all in themselves. I cannot say that I was essential to the creation of these puppets, but I am proud to say that I had a hand in it somewhat. And that overall, this class was fun,and informative.
